Essential Oil: Rosemary ct. Cineol - Rosmarinus officinalis
Rosemary essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the leaves and twig tips of rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis). Rosemary belongs to the genus Rosmarinus (subfamily: Nepetoideae) in the mint family (Lamiaceae). Rosemary originally comes from the western and central Mediterranean region. Today, rosemary is cultivated worldwide as a spice plant. The evergreen, bushy rosemary shrub grows between 20 cm and 2 meters high. The light blue, pink or white flowers can be formed all year round. The essential oils from Agilpharma as well as our rosemary oil are 100 percent natural and from controlled organic cultivation. The rosemary for our rosemary oil is grown in Tunisia.
Rosemary oil in naturopathy and in aromatherapy
Depending on the location, climatic conditions, growth situation and harvest time, rosemary essentially forms three different chemotypes (ct.) i.e. different biochemical characteristics of the plant are in the foreground. The chemotypes are assigned to the essential rosemary essences for use in naturopathy and aromatherapy. If the same Rosmarinus officinalis plant species grows in North Africa or Turkey, it has a higher proportion of cineole, which can have a stimulating effect on the immune system. Where rosemary is located in the northern Mediterranean region, such as Spain, Corsica or Sardinia, the proportions of cineole and borneon (camphor) are more balanced, and French rosemary contains a higher level of verbenone.
The Effects of Rosemary Oil
The draining, detoxifying and digestive properties of rosemary as a kitchen herb and incense herb as well as a versatile remedy were already valued in ancient times. In aromatherapy, essential rosemary oil can have a strengthening effect on nerves, memory and the ability to concentrate. It is therefore used by therapists for general weakness and concentration disorders, primarily as an oil bath or in the fragrance lamp.
Also, rosemary oil ct. Cineole as the essential oil that stimulates blood circulation the most. It is therefore used for neuralgia, rheumatic complaints and sore muscles as a massage oil or oil bath.
The following properties are assigned to essential rosemary oil of the chemotype cineol in the specialist literature:
- heart and liver strengthening
- skin regenerating
Rosemary oil as a room fragrance and in perfumery
As a room fragrance, rosemary is one of the stimulating and invigorating oils and can have an activating, nerve-strengthening and circulatory-stabilizing effect as well as increasing concentration.
In perfumery, rosemary is mainly used for herbal, wood and resin scents. Furthermore, rosemary and rosemary oil is a component in Eau de Cologne and lavender water and is also used in a large number of body care products (soap, shampoo, deodorants).

Characteristics of the essential oil rosemary bio ct. Cineol
The oil is a mobile, colorless to yellowish, sometimes greenish liquid. It has a spicy-refreshing characteristic scent. In terms of length of stay, intensity and effect, it is one of the top notes.
The essential oil dissolves very well in alcohol (1:1, ethanol 90%), vegetable oils and other essential oils. It is almost insoluble in water. Main components of rosemary essential oil ct. Cineole are 1·8-cineole, pinene isomers and camphor. In lower concentrations are borneol, α-terpineol, limonene, caryophyllene, myrcene, p-cymene, and bornyl acetate.
The natural components of the all-natural essential oil include
1·8-Cineol, Pinenes, Camphor, Camphene, Caryophyllene, Limonene, Borneol, α-Terpineol, Myrcene, p-Cymene, Bornylacetat.
Contents: 10 ml 100% natural essential oil - 1 ml corresponds to approx. 20 drops
Put 5-8 drops of essential oil in the bowl filled with water in the aroma lamp or wet the aroma stone directly with it. In combination with other essential oils, reduce the amount as desired.
Fragrance mixture for a blocked nose or to stay awake, continue working: 2 Tr. Niaouli, 1 Tr. Rosemary ct. Mix cineol, 3 drops of palmarosa or with one of the lemon peel oils.
Fragrance mixture for new drive and better concentration: Add 1-2 drops of spearmint to 3 drops each of rosemary and bergamot oil. Caution: do not use too late in the evening to avoid falling asleep!
Storage: Store away from light at temperatures of 15 to 22 °C and out of the reach of children.
Note the hazard warnings on the label. The bottle has a childproof cap and vertical dropper. To dose the essential oil, hold the bottle upside down so that you can count the individual drops. Depending on the consistency of the oil, it may take some time after opening for the first time until the first drops can be seen.
Caution: Essential oils are concentrates that may only be used diluted! Rosemary Essential Oil ct. Cineole must not be taken. 1·8-Cineole can applications on the skin lead to skin irritation and eczema in sensitive persons, gastroenteritis and kidney irritation are possible if ingested. Limonene and linalool have allergenic potential. Limonene may cause skin irritation in sensitive individuals. Rosemary Essential Oil ct. Cineol is not suitable for external use in pregnant women, infants and small children.
