Description:

Essential Oil: Rosemary ct. Cineol - Rosmarinus officinalis

Rosemary essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the leaves and twig tips of rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis). Rosemary belongs to the genus Rosmarinus (subfamily: Nepetoideae) in the mint family (Lamiaceae). Rosemary originally comes from the western and central Mediterranean region. Today, rosemary is cultivated worldwide as a spice plant. The evergreen, bushy rosemary shrub grows between 20 cm and 2 meters high. The light blue, pink or white flowers can be formed all year round. The essential oils from Agilpharma as well as our rosemary oil are 100 percent natural and from controlled organic cultivation. The rosemary for our rosemary oil is grown in Tunisia.

Rosemary oil in naturopathy and in aromatherapy

Depending on the location, climatic conditions, growth situation and harvest time, rosemary essentially forms three different chemotypes (ct.) i.e. different biochemical characteristics of the plant are in the foreground. If the same Rosmarinus officinalis plant species grows in North Africa or Turkey, it has a higher proportion of cineole, which can have a stimulating effect on the immune system. Where rosemary is located in the northern Mediterranean region, such as Spain, Corsica or Sardinia, the proportions of cineole and borneon (camphor) are more balanced, and French rosemary contains a higher level of verbenone.
