Bigaradier petitgrain essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the leaves and twig tips of bitter orange (Citrus aurantium var. amara) won. Bitter orange belongs to the genus of citrus fruits (Citrus) in the rue family (Rutaceae) in the order Sapindales. Synonyms for the bitter orange are bitter orange, Seville orange or sour orange. The bitter orange is a hybrid of the pomelo (Citrus maxima) and the tangerine (Citrus reticulata) and probably originated in southern China. Petitgrain means "little grain," referring to the small, unripe fruit that was originally distilled. With the additional designation "Bigaradier" (Fr. bitter sour orange), the essential oil is distinguished from petitgrain oil "Mandarinier" distinguished, which is obtained from the tangerine tree (Citrus reticulata). In addition to the essential petitgrain oil, the bitter orange also provides bitter orange oil (from the peel) and neroli oil (from the flowers). Today's distribution areas are the Mediterranean region, Brazil and the West Indies. The bitter orange is an evergreen tree that can grow up to 10 m tall. There are thorns in the leaf axils. The tree develops white, strongly fragrant flowers from which the precious essential neroli oil can be extracted. The rounded, somewhat flattened fruits for the cold pressing of the essential bitter orange oil develop from the flowers.

In the Cosmetics the essential petitgrain oil is a component of cologne and is used in many cosmetic products such as e.g. B. fine soaps used. Since it is similar to the expensive neroli oil in terms of scent and effect, it is often used as a cheap alternative.

Characteristics of Petitgrain bio essential oil
The oil is a mobile, yellow liquid. It has a strong, fresh, floral and slightly tart scent, with characteristic citrus notes. As a scent of a citrus tree, petitgrain oil is counted among the top notes on the one hand, but with its slightly tart, spicy scent it lingers longer in the air and thus corresponds to the heart notes.
The essential petitgrain oil dissolves well in alcohol (1:4, ethanol 70%), vegetable oils and other essential oils. It is almost insoluble in water. The main component of petitgrain essential oil is linalyl acetate. Linalool, limonene, geraniol and geranyl acetate are present in significant concentrations.

Application:
Room scenting
In the fragrance lamp or fragrance fountain, add 5-8 drops of essential oil to the bowl filled with water or wet the fragrance stone directly with it. In combination with other essential oils, reduce the amount as desired.
Fragrance mixture to "stay through": 4-6 drops of petitgrain oil Bigaradier and 3-4 drops of cedarwood
Fragrance blend for an uplifting sleep: 3-4 drops of petitgrain oil Bigaradier, 3-4 drops of fine lavender
Storage: Store away from light at temperatures of 15 to 22 °C and out of the reach of children.
Important instructions:
Note the hazard warnings on the label. The bottle has a childproof cap and vertical dropper. To dose the essential oil, hold the bottle upside down so that you can count the individual drops. Depending on the consistency of the oil, it may take some time after opening for the first time until the first drops can be seen.
Caution: Essential oils are concentrates that may only be used diluted! Some of the ingredients in petitgrain essential oil are classified as hazardous to health. Pinene isomers can cause skin irritation and eczema when applied to the skin in sensitive individuals, and kidney irritation is possible when ingested. Linalool, limonene, linalyl acetate and geraniol have allergenic potential. Essential petitgrain oil is not suitable for internal use in babies, small children and during pregnancy.
