Palmarosa - Cymbopogon martinii

The essential palmarosa oil is obtained by steam distillation of the leaves of a sweet grass species (palmarosa grass, Cymbopogon martinii). Palmarosa grass belongs to the genus of lemon grasses (Cymbopogon, subfamily: Panicoideae) in the sweet grass family (Poaceae). The palmarosa grass occurs in large parts of Africa, Asia (especially China and India) and Australia. The palmarosa grass is a perennial plant, the rootstock of which develops culms that can be between 150 and 300 cm long. Palmarosa grass forms 20 to 30 cm long inflorescences with red flowers.

To the room scenting Palmarosa essential oil brings strength, harmony and positive feelings. It can also have anxiolytic and calming effects while also refreshing the air and repelling insects.

In the aromatherapy Essential palmarosa oil is used because of its stimulating and strengthening effect. It is also used by therapists as an oil bath, massage oil or ointment, especially in the case of fears, mental exhaustion, for example due to stress in exam situations or nervousness.

In Indian medicine, palmarosa oil has long been used for skin care because of its nourishing, highly antibacterial properties. Therapists use it especially for skin irritations such. B. acne or eczema. It is also used against fungi and viruses. The following properties are assigned to essential palmarosa oil in the specialist literature: Strongly antibacterial, strongly antiviral, strongly antimycotic, toning, strengthening, decongesting, deacidifying (by stimulating and strengthening the lymphatic system), regenerating, cleansing, very skin-friendly and skin-caring, insect-repellent.

In the Cosmetics Essential palmarosa oil is used as an inexpensive rose fragrance component for corresponding perfume notes and for scenting soaps or shampoos. Please note that essential oils are concentrates that may only be used diluted, as well as the instructions under "Application".
