Litsea / Litzea - Litsea Cubeba
Litsea essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the berries, leaves and bark of Litsea cubeba (May Chang), which belongs to the genus Litsea (Laurus) in the laurel family (Lauraceae). The small tropical tree originally comes from China, Indonesia and Taiwan and is now planted in East Asia and Japan. The evergreen shrub or tree grows up to 12 meters high. Originally, the real laurel comes from the Near East and has meanwhile spread over the entire Mediterranean region and Northwest America. Inflorescences develop at the ends of the branches, which bear white or yellowish, lemon-scented flowers from which small reddish-colored fruits develop, reminiscent of peppercorns. The plant serves as a natural source of citral worldwide.
if room scent In normal doses, the essential Litsea oil can have a refreshing, concentration-enhancing and stimulating effect without agitating. In small doses, e.g. as a room spray or on a fragrance stone, it can have a calming, relaxing anti-stress effect and alleviate inner restlessness or insomnia. With its air-purifying, runny properties, Litsea Oil is an ideal oil for room scenting.
Litsea Essential Oil is used in the aromatherapy and commonly used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for infections, colds and flu, as well as stomach upset and motion sickness. Therapists use the anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic properties to strengthen the digestive tract in the event of flatulence, gastritis or inflammation of the small and large intestine. Pads, embrocations or oil baths are recommended as the type of application. In skin care, it is also used for herpes and acne. The following properties are assigned to essential Litsea Cubeba oil in the specialist literature: antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, stomachic, digestive, slightly antispasmodic, antiviral, disinfectant, air disinfectant, deodorant, insect repellent.
In cosmetics, litsea oil with its sweet-fruity citrus scent can be found in numerous perfumes, cosmetics and detergents, such as soaps and other household products.
