Vitamin D deficiency accelerates muscle fatigue
For the first time, a possible explanation has been found for the fact that people with low vitamin D levels often suffer from physical fatigue. A study presented at the 2013 Annual Meeting of the Society for Endocrinology in the UK showed that low vitamin D levels are associated with impaired mitochondrial function and that vitamin D supplementation can improve muscle recovery.
The British research team led by Dr. Akash Sinah of Newcastle University found that one Supplementation with vitamin D improved muscle phosphocreatine resynthesis in people with vitamin D deficiency after 10-12 weeks.
The researchers believe that the results of this study will have far-reaching implications for a large part of society. Because the lack of vitamin D in the population of industrialized countries is widespread and many patients with vitamin D deficiency often suffer from symptoms of muscle fatigue.
